Bob and Barbara Zielinski, Co-Founders of Marriage Management,
were married in 1970. Bob went into the Army only two weeks later. This experience with marriage and military service created a passionate interest in marriage education to save their own relationship. Through the years, Bob and Barbara have gained certification in teaching dozens of marriage and family curricula. In 1980, they each received appointments by the University of Maryland, European Division, to write curriculum and conduct marriage education programs at 30 U.S. military bases in Germany supporting the USAEUR Chaplains Corps.

They formed Marriage Management Consultants (MMC) in 1981. At the start of the War on Terror in 2003, MMC repositioned itself as a non-profit organization to serve those who serve our country. Married members of the military should not have to sacrifice their marriage in order to serve their country. Yet multiple combat deployments have made marriages a hidden casualty of war.

Many military members returning from deployment have considerable challenges in reconnecting with their spouse and families. The military marriage frequently exhibits unusual stresses such as marital strife, drug and alcohol abuse, destructive behaviors, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, instability, suicide and a high susceptibility to divorce - up to 80% in some sectors of the military. These issues are worsened by multiple deployments and magnified for Wounded Warriors.

The Mission of Marriage Management is to strengthen military marriages by providing programs that help prevent divorce caused by the unique stresses of combat and deployments, especially for the wounded. We believe our Country’s Defenders deserve quality, no-cost support. MMC has served hundreds of military members and spouses throughout the country in just the last three years.

In 2010, Marriage Management received national recognition, receiving Fisher House’s Newman’s Own Award presented by the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President of Newman’s Own in a special ceremony at the Pentagon.
